Nora Sandigo

Nora Sandigo is a community "Mother Teresa" as she serves as the legal guardian to hundreds of Latino children who have been separated from their parents due to immigration and deportation laws. Through her non-profit organization, "American Fraternity" she serves these children and families with their needs ranging from food and shelter to legal advice in the courts. While she cannot offer all the children the love and attention they need, Nora alleviates their lives by helping navigate the complicated and overwhelming U.S. court system.

Among her many duties, Nora arranges care for the children when a parent is deported, which usually includes caring for them temporarily while she finds a home to place them in, usually with family or family friends. In total, Nora Sandigo is the legal guardian of over 800 American children of undocumented immigrants. The work she does has a real impact on the lives of children and families across the nation who need support due to their status in the United States.
