Maria Lopez Alvarez was named Senior Vice President of Reality Programming and Specials in July 2014. In this role, she oversees the production for all of Telemundo’s reality programming including the  production of the network’s hit singing competition “La Voz Kids;" “Top Chef Estrellas,” the primetime culinary competition series; and “Yo So El Artista,” which launched Telemundo’s first-ever social media influencer summit, #YoSoyelInfluencer. In addition, she supervises all of the network's specials and red carpet events.


Most recently, Lopez Alvarez served as Telemundo’s Senior Vice President of Alternative Programming, where she was responsible for the day-to-day operations of non-scripted productions and specials. Upon her arrival to Telemundo in 2012, she spearheaded the re-launch of Telemundo’s morning show, “Un Nuevo Día,” its weekday production, and helped lead the show to significant ratings growth and garner its first Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Morning Program.


A seasoned award-winning television executive, Lopez Alvarez previously held integral roles in alternative programming, vertical platforms, news and entertainment for Univision Network. Notably, Lopez Alvarez launched “Nuestra Belleza Latina,” one of the network’s most successful reality competition programs and supervised it for the first five seasons. During her 28 years with Univision, she developed and oversaw the network’s daily news magazine program, “Primer Impacto,” as well as the network’s daily entertainment news show, “El Gordo y La Flaca.”
