Hugo Balta is an experienced Broadcasting and Digital Media Professional who has directed growth, change and innovation in several markets, divisions and business cycles.

Balta is the Senior Director, multicultural content for the ESPN Digital & Print Media group. In this role, he leads initiatives in raising the quality, profile and delivery of diverse newsgathering and storytelling to better serve the domestic Hispanic audience.
Balta is also responsible for expanding ESPN’s efforts to serve sports fans worldwide by partnering with editorial leaders in Mexico and Latin America and recruit diverse editorial talent. His previous assignment at ESPN was Coordinating Producer for SportsCenter where he was responsible for the content and on-air look of studio and event related programs; driving creativity, accuracy, storytelling and entertainment.

A dedicated advocate for advancing the welfare of the Latino community, Balta is the immediate past president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ). He has been celebrated for his volunteer leadership including by the NFL when the New York Jets honored him with the Hispanic Heritage Leadership award in 2014.
Prior to joining ESPN in 2011, Hugo held several leadership roles at CBS, NBC, Telemundo and MSNBC over a career spanning 24 years.

Balta lives in Central Connecticut with his wife and two children.
